Abstract
This chapter focuses on using virtual strategies to create a virtual exchange which could provide students and faculty an opportunity to have an international learning experience, even if they cannot or are not ready to travel abroad. To be sure, study abroad programmes are meaningful elements of any strategy, but internationalisation cannot be laid solely on the education abroad doorstep. This chapter provides details of a previous cooperative online international learning (COIL) project and includes assignment details and project outcomes. Faculty are encouraged to explore the use of COIL, or other Internationalisation at Home frameworks, to develop and enhance students’ cross-cultural competence. A collaborative online international learning component will allow for international student teams to collaborate on class projects to expand students’ appreciation for the global nature of corporate social responsibility issues. The COIL project has become popular with students from both institutions and has proven to be an effective learning assignment.
