    Abstract

Intelligent sensors were fabricated having self-diagnosing ability to carry out efficient fault detection. The advent of fieldbus which enables sensors to produce a number of parameters ensured the proliferation of this trend. In this article the generation and interpretation of diagnostic information were discussed. The Sensor Validation Project set the validity criteria of measurement, designating two parameters: the Validated Uncertainty and the Measurement Value Status. This will hopefully set the standard for delineating sensor data validity.
