    Abstract

This paper reports on the development and application of a representational model of threshold concepts in Transport and Product Design courses. A key aspect of the paper will be to demonstrate the linking of pedagogical research to teaching and learning and curriculum design. The model brings together the research outcomes and enables the visualisation of the relationship of the student to design capabilities, the curriculum and engagement with professional practice. The applicability of the model to other design disciplines will also be discussed.
