Abstract
A Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) delivers restorative clinical supervision (RCS)
for nurses. PNAs also lead, support, and deliver quality improvement initiatives through the A-EQUIP
model (Advocating and Educating for Quality Improvement) in response to RCS sessions, appraisals,
or career development conversations.
Positive aspects of the PNA programme include improving nurse morale, career progression and
intention to stay in the NHS, rather than leave. However, further promotion of the A-EQUIP model in
practice is needed.
Quantifiable evidence of improvements in patient care/outcomes arising from PNA initiated Quality
Improvement (QI) work also lacks robust development and potential longevity.
