Abstract

We have recorded THz spectra for prepared samples of bovine rhodopsin in rod outer segments (ROS) before and after illumination by a band wavelength source (500-800nm). These spectra have been used to generate difference spectra in order to identify signals arising from the structural transformations which occur during the light- activation process. Molecular dynamics simulations on active and inactive rhodopsin in implicit membrane have been used to guide the interpretation of these spectra.
