Abstract

It is normal practice to design steel trusses on the basis of the axial forces in the members, with allowance being made subsequently for the moments due to any eccentricity of the connection at the joints. The paper describes the development of stiffness matrices using finite element methods, and their use in the elastic analysis of complete structures.
