Abstract

The literature on new product development performance captures knowledge creation as a prerequisite for innovation. Architectural innovation as an important driver of new product development relies on the creation of new architectural knowledge. It is not yet clear how knowledge creation affects architectural innovation. This research investigates the effect of different knowledge creation modes on architectural innovation using a sample of 196 UK manufacturing companies. This study supports the positive effect of socialisation, externalisation, and internalisation on architectural innovation which will lead to new product development.
