The original invited presentation on which the chapter is based was given as part of the 8th Nordcode Seminar & Workshop entitled: ‘Design Responsibility – Potentials and Pitfalls’ in May 2009 at Kolding School of Design, Denmark. Nordcode is a researcher network established in 2000. The network organizes seminars and meetings on design research, especially concerning design’s communicative aspects. The network received funding from NordForsk during the years 2003-2007 and is supported by the participating universities. Woolley was an international advisor to the Nordcode network during its funded period. (See http://www.nordcode.net/)

significance of work to advance knowledge, skills, understanding and scholarship in theory, practice, education, management and/or policy: -
Design ethics have become a key subject for debate and action across academic, practitioner and producer communities. The chapter develops practical models which involve both design decision-makers and consumers
