    Abstract

This poster pre-dates the insertion of Part 2A into f the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (by the Environment Act 1995) and is presented as a historical reminder of how far regulatory controls of contaminated land have come since the introduction of part 2A, the requirement for local authorities to have a contaminated land strategy and the integration of pollution control regulation by the formation of the Environment Agency. The days were very different, particularly with respect to the attitude to groundwater pollution by the water regulator at the time. The document indicates how lax things were in the past and those with a knowledge of current practices will realise how far things have come.
