    Abstract

This paper advances the case for open models of higher art education in the 21st century. To achieve this, we propose using open educational practices (OPAL, 2012) as a form of social entrepreneurship, supported by digital technologies. Based on our own and others recent experiences in open education we outline the nature of the problems we outline the nature of the problems we face, some of the practical working responses that have already appeared, and describe emerging potential solutions that can build on the progress achieved to date.
