    Abstract

Composting processes that are carried out in the open are known to bring about the release of micro-organisms into the atmosphere. Conditions set in waste permits and planning permissions may specify that facility operators must sample for these micro-organisms around these sites, potentially pre-operationally and during the operational life of the site. This Standardised Protocol was made available by the Composting Association to provide guidance as to how these conditions could be met.
