Abstract

This presentation will explain the Soft Skills for Hard Hats project that is a result of a successful bid to the 2016 Call for Erasmus+ KA2 –Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices, Strategic Partnerships for Vocational Education and Training. The project consortium consists of 7 European partners from Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Slovenia and Italy and Coventry University, in the UK as the project lead and coordinator.
The Soft Skills for Hard Hats project creates online, semi immersive interactive scenarios aimed at first level construction supervisors to help develop soft skills. The project focuses on 4 different soft skills: teamwork, communication, leadership and problem solving. The material created can be used both in a formal learning setting and by an individual in their own time. Each unit enables participants to undertake an individualised learning experience based on the choices they make. At the end of the process the learner receives feedback on their individual choices. Training material is adapted from the approach used with construction students at Coventry University’s Simulation Centre and aims to complement it as a “virtual” preparation for the Simulation Centre experience.
