    Abstract

Safety instrumented systems and emergency shutdown systems are extremely important for the management and reduction of risk in industry. New standards on functional safety of systems (e.g. [1]) often require a quantification of the achieved safety. Markov model has been known as a strong tool for modeling and evaluation of safety. In this article, we will provide a closed-form solution for computation of safety of parallel, standby, and NMR systems, given the reliability of these systems.
