Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The chapter draws on the reflections of referees, and those connected with refereeing, in England, related to their experiences of training, match preparation, and match officiating in elite level refereeing, making comparisons with referees from Spain and Italy. The different components that make up the training that elite referees currently experience in England, Spain and Italy are considered, with particular attention paid to physical, psychological and technical training. Referee match preparation and the differences and similarities between the three countries within this preparation are also analysed.
