Abstract

In July 2024 I undertook an artists residency with The 309 Punk Project in Pensacola, Florida, USA. My plan was to spend the time researching an interesting set of links between the city and Wales. These included the purported landing of Prince Madoc, just across the border at Mobile Bay, in 1170; a fort used in the 1781 Siege of Pensacola being called 'The Prince of Wales Redoubt'; the naming of Fort Morgan (at the site of Prince Madoc's purported landing) after the son of Welsh immigrants to the US; the first vegetarian/organic restaurant in Pensacola being set up by a Welsh immigrant; and the fact that Welsh wrestler, The Exotic Adrian Street, made Pensacola his home for many years. I worked with local Pensacola musicians to write and record an EP of songs about this research, which are the songs contained on this EP/artefact, made publicly accessible via all major streaming platforms.
