Purchasing and Providing Cost-Effective Health Care

    Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

    Abstract

Medical care is changing dramatically in all parts of the world; it is becoming more ambitious and and more effective, but also more expensive. This has led to increased emphasis on cost containment in public health systems such as the NHS. However, effective cost containment is not the same as ensuring that health care is provided in the most cost effective manner; for this the effectiveness and quality of care provided must be carefully evaluated and related to costs.
