Abstract

In this chapter, we summarize and synthesize the various chapters presented in Part III, all of which revolve around how to develop sports officials' skills and performances. This includes discussions on in-competition decisions for sports officials, enhancing opportunities for sports officials to engage in practice, biases that influence sports officials' decisions, movement/positioning demands for sports officials, fitness testing for sports officials, strengthening sports officials' group cohesion, and developing mentally tough sports officials. We end the chapter with five recommendations (e.g., create training opportunities for sports officials; develop sports-specific fitness testing and guidelines) that sports officiating organizations could adopt to enhance the quality of their sports officials and their performances.
