Abstract

This chapter posits that gender, while being messy and non-binary, is a salient consideration in the development of virtual and embodied robots to avoid replicating stereotypical representations of men and women's roles and occupations in our future artificial work colleagues, and companions. Some questions are posed for robot developers with early responses from researchers working in the field.
