    Abstract

A novel hybrid electromagnetic system has been designed for the direct, non-destructive determination of the presence of corrosion on steel reinforcement within concrete. The instrumentation comprises a base-band radar system realised using uttra-wideband pulse techniques, together with a proprietary corrosion probe. It is the combination of the two probes that allows for definitive detection of embedded corrosion in a non-invasive manner.
