Abstract
This report examines the experiences of children who are detained for the purpose of immigration control. It explores the impacts of detention on children, the alternatives to detention and the safeguards that are necessary to prevent detention becoming prolonged and to ensure that children’s rights are upheld and that they are treated lawfully. The research was highly influential leading to a major national campaign to end the detention of children in the UK.
