Abstract

This article reviews three books offering potential new insights for preventing conflict violence. The rationale for preventative response to warnings of imminent conflict seems obvious: effective early interventions might avert the humanitarian catastrophes of armed conflict, and should also cost far less in terms of development losses and political instability.
