    Abstract

Authors study what household and individual characteristics impact underreporting of household food waste. Authors find that individual characteristics such as high social desirability can aggravate the underreporting of food waste, while high estimation ability can mitigate the underreporting. Policy makers and researchers should control for these individual characteristics while assessing the impact of interventions to reduce household food waste.
