Making Change: Reading Festival 2000-2024, an Evaluative Performance

Abstract

On 28th February 2025, the research team presented an Evaluative Performance of experiences of Reading Festival 2000-2024 which sought to explore reasons for an observed reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour over time.

This performance was edited, curated and directed by Dr Charlie Ingram and featured the following professional actors:

Steven Rostance
Leonie Frazier
Sam Dixon
Seabert Henry

Due to a last minute drop out, Dr Charlie Ingram acted as three separate white-male characters, all aged in their 50’s.

This performance was presented at the Ellen Terry Theatre, Coventry University to an invited audience which consisted of Festival Republic staff, Representatives from Coventry City Council, Academics from Dance, Social Science, Behavioural Science and Economic Geography disciplines, participants of the research and interested members of the public. 38 audience members were present.

This performance forms part of the research project Evaluating Policy Impact: Observing crowd behavioural shifts at Reading Festival, 2000-2024. Led by Dr. Charlie Igram, Dr Michaela Gummerum and Dr. Yaniv Hanoch. This research/project is supported/funded by the British Academy’s BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants Programme, grant number SRG24\240600.
