Abstract

This online essay explores Juliana Hall's 2017 song cycle "A World Turned Upside Down". Based on extracts from "The Diary of a Young Girl", by Anne Frank, it investigates the notion of enforced exile and seclusion as an unlikely creative platform, and provides a compelling account of human experience, memoriam, and legacy.
