Abstract

This section provides inspiration, ideas, and resources for celebrating the value of meaningful leisure activities in reducing life pressures and increasing psychological well-being. Immersing oneself in a leisure activity can lead to a heightened awareness of the present moment and an improved sense of our capabilities, as well as offering opportunities to make social connections. Sharing experiences can lead to animated conversations, whether these are about people’s childhood interests and crazes, how their interests have changed over the years, what happens to time when they are engrossed in an activity, or how leisure can be defined. A Leisure Activities session can help people to recognise that a balance is required between active and passive leisure pursuits, and strengthen their determination to participate in their chosen leisure activities.
