    Abstract

This online short course looks into details at the task of selecting staff for an overseas assignment. In the context of international human resource management, employees who are sent abroad referred to as expatriates or in short ‘expats’ are identified to perform well and stay committed to an assignment, in a different cultural environment, and to remain focused until the end of their contracts or until the assignment ends. This course helps students to understand:
    • Examine the role of expats and how to select them strategically.
    • Identify various challenges expats face in a different cultural environment and how are they mitigated.
    • Comprehend an organisations role in supporting expats while overseas as well as upon their return.
