Abstract

Although sometimes regarded as just another minor step in the evolution of technology, the push towards the consumption of content on mobile devices is truly revolutionary. It involves the merging of the content and mobile industry, requiring the adaptation of technology, business, content and consumers. Here we focus on research and results achieved in the tourism and education environment as far as adaptability of content distributors to mobile device consumer market is concerned. The introduction is basically a description of current scenario, focusing on what is presently available, which are technologies "in place", present infrastructure, problems and limitations encountered so far and future perspectives. Our approach is then presented from its starting point: MOBIlearn and WEBKIT projects. The overall architecture, framework, content related process, site, location and user management process are exposed. Expected results are briefly presented along with some possible application scenarios.
