Abstract

INHALE pause Exhale exhibited at studio 2 gallery is a series of large-scale text drawings developed in response to the ‘Notes for a Performance’ series. Consisting of lettering on layered Awagami paper, the works articulate performative moments collating cultural and cinematic references in the form of audio description, extracts from historical archival documents and first-hand aural histories. The drawings montage cinematic references with performative gesture in the form or stage directions and audio description, for example one darwing includes a fragment from the opening scene of The Shining, A Pale Yellow Volkswagen Beetle Winds its Way Along a Narrow Ribbon of Highway, another a majestic scene from Stanley Kubricks’ 2001: A Space Odyssey.
