Abstract
The commons are often treated as an artifact from medieval times related to collective land ownership and resource sharing. They precede the “enclosures,” which saw the privatization and division of land across England starting in the seventeenth century, which in turn led to the displacement of people who later became the workforce of the Industrial Revolution, a condition for the development of capitalism.
Partisan Social Club, with Gary Hall, look at how the term “commoning” might operate or be reclaimed today, in the age of neoliberalism. They imagine an alternative form of collective organization and participation in the management of ecological and economic resources, as well as a means by which to address local needs outside of profit-driven enterprises.
