Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore the experiences of migrant mothers participating in the series of Art Workshops as a part of the community project by Tereza Buskova Hidden Mothers that took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom in October and November 2019. The study used a qualitative approach to collect data from 12 Mothers-Participants. Data was collected using semi-structured in -depth interviews and ethnographic observations. Thematic analysis informed data analysis. Three main themes emerged from the data: Motherhood, Belonging and Role of the community based art projects. Findings showed that motherhood combined with migration can determine psychological resilience. Moreover, numbers of Participants reported becoming a mother as an important factor contributing to the feeling of homesickness. Additionally, the feeling of homesickness was reported by the women who reflected on problematic belonging or lack thereof. Role of the art in Community based projected appeared to be a prevalent theme as empowering and therapeutic.
