Abstract

Recently, green procurement has moved to the center of attention for both researchers and practitioners. As the body of literature is evolving in the field, green public procurement is emerging as an important avenue of research. Public organizations are major role players in driving the change towards greener procurement due to their high buying and bargaining power. One of the most important areas in which very little research has been carried out is the green public procurement in the healthcare industry. This research proposal reviews the pertinent literature of green public procurement, proposes a general framework to study green procurement in healthcare, and discusses the challenges, future opportunities, and expected outcomes of green public procurement in healthcare.
