N2 - Sport management education has evolved in different educational settings, cultures, and countries around the world. Today sport is a global industry and sport management plays an integral role within this industry. As the global sports industry developed, educational courses created to serve this industry became commonplace. However, the complex nature of sport management education provision, tied to a dynamic global industry, has created challenges, issues, and opportunities for academics operating in sport management education. Organised into four themes, namely, the role of teaching sport management education; learners and learning in sport management education; developing professional competencies within sport management education; and learning in lockdown – sport management education responses to COVID-19, this edited collection utilises novel and contemporary academic research to provide insight into the delivery of curricular in different international and educational settings, what students should learn, and what is effective learning. With the learner-centred approach central to the content of this book, this chapter considers sport management education today and how the structure of the book facilitates a contemporary consideration of some of the central issues evident therein.
