Abstract
Although undesirable, different labour market outcomes for
men and women are still being observed in many places. One of the most important consequences of different treatment in the labour market is lower wages for women. Using 1988 Household Labour Force Survey data, this study aims to examine the gender wage differentials and its possible causes in the Turkish Labour Market. Results from Neumark‟s modification of Oaxaca decomposition suggest that the human capital characteristics of females have a narrowing effect on the wage gap and the difference is mainly due to discrimination.
