Abstract
Could a revamped World Trade Organization and Doha Round make a lasting contribution to free trade? Drawing on his observations of the international system before and after the Second World War, Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises argued that government intervention in domestic affairs unleashes politico-economic forces that make it practically impossible to secure long-lasting free trade.
