    Abstract

Ford of Britain has the longest history of manufacturing, engineering and design
within the Ford organisation outside of the US, and that heritage still continues
today, with Dunton Research and Engineering Centre in Essex celebrating
its fiftieth year of operation in 2017. The history of Ford’s engineering and
design goes back way before Dunton of course, although it has never been well
    documented.1
