Abstract
When a family is experiencing homelessness, it becomes the duty of a local authority to move them into temporary accommodation. The reasons families face homelessness are many - they could be fleeing domestic violence, facing eviction, or struggling to meet the cost of increasing rent. As of March 2024, official data records that there are 117,450 households in temporary accommodation in England, which includes 151,630 children. In comparison, 3,900 people are estimated to be experiencing street homelessness.
Since 2022, Luvera has been embedded within the team of Focused Care practitioners for homeless families at Shared Health Foundation, working with families living in temporary accommodation across Greater Manchester to represent their experiences through photography and audio recordings.
From the 22nd to the 27th of April 2024, Families Living in Temporary Accommodation by Anthony Luvera was presented by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Households in Temporary Accommodation in the Upper Waiting Hall at the House of Commons, Palace of Westminster. The exhibition served as a campaigning tool for the policy and advocacy teams of the charity organisations, Shared Health Foundation and Just Life.
Families Living in Temporary Accommodation was then featured in the Jubilee Library in Brighton from the 1st to the 31st of October for the Brighton Photo Fringe festival, curated by the Socially Engaged Art Salon.
