Abstract

F0lded 1n by Anna Drupka and Kevin Walker is a nomadic, ritual space for contemplating AI and spirituality through sound and symbolism. We leave it to each viewer whether it is a space for protection from, or worship of, AI. We aim to prompt discussions about spirituality by mixing traditional and contemporary symbolism and spatial sound, to create an immersive, experiential space.

On view Oct 2022 to Mar 2023 at NDSM Fuse Amsterdam, F0lded 1n is constructed from architectural felt, custom embroidery, generative four-channel audio, lights, speakers, custom electronics. Drawings made by Walker, with input from AI, were custom embroidered by specialist craft artists: ‘Air’ by Julie Szot and Olga Budzan, ‘Earth’ by Halina Subzda, ’Fire’ by Agata Sernecka, ’Spirit’ by Irena Szepiczak, ‘Water’ by Joanne Bozek. A four-channel spatial soundscape was created by Walker from a poem he wrote, which is recited by Drupka and combined with abstract sounds to create an immersive experience.

The installation is also accessible to visitors with special needs, being wheelchair accessible and employing tactile materials and spatial sound.
