Abstract

The Energy Act 1983, enhanced the opportunities for private generators in Great Britain, by widening the scope for private generation and formalising the ad hoc arrangements which previously existed for the sale of privately produced electricity to the distribution utilities. Since this paper is concerned in particular with private generation in the United Kingdom it may be helpful to review briefly the structure of the national electricity supply industry, and the arrangements for electricity generation and distribution.
