Abstract
The Centre for Health Services Studies (CHESS) at Warwick University has undertaken a range of activities to further develop nursing as an academic discipline in the primary and community care field. This article summarizes this work. In order to strengthen the research base of primary and community care, intervention measures must occur at both individual and strategic levels. This article describes interventions which have been made at each of these levels and discusses developments in research skills training, networking and strategy development, and information and resource provision.
