Der Aufbau einer Strategieplattform: Vom Politisieren urbaner Ernährungsbewegungen zu urbaner politischer Agrarökologie

In different cities and in diverse ways, we - the authors of this chapter - are connected to gardens, to building the urban commons and to knowledge creation. We met at the International Conference of Critical Geography “Precarious Radicalism on Shifting Grounds: Towards a Politics of Possibility” in Ramallah (Palestine) in July 2015. The organisers of the conference wanted to create a space where scholars, activists, artists and others interested in critical socio- spatial praxis could discuss how “the rise on authoritarianisms, revanchists’ responses, encroachment of fundamental rights, precarity of subsistence, social relations, employment, or the consolidation of populist right wing and fundamentalist movements, [eclipses and undermines] the political space and fundamental work of individuals, communities and movements around the world.”. The conference wanted to be an opportunity to share thoughts on how to transform these times into “a moment of political possibility by reconsidering and/or expanding existing paradigms as well as by reconnecting solidarities and struggles”1. The letter conversation that is reproduced below was written part in preparation and part at the aftermath of this stimulating conference. We found that the ‘letter’ was a form of communication that reflected well the type of connection and relation we were trying to build, and at the same time suitable to look at the future while creating an ‘active memory’ of the process, emotions, and exchanges we were living. In these letters we discuss our experiences of being embedded in often contradictory green urban activities while also being scholars theorizing about those developments. We share our doubts, motivations and ways to contribute to (urban food) movements from this double position, what questions arise and how to deal with them.
