    Abstract

One of the biggest factors for the failure of any reinforced concrete structure is corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement.Corrosion is mainly caused by ingress of aggressive chemical agents, such as chlorides or carbon dioxide, into the concrete, causing breakdown of protective passive layer on the steel and ultimately leading to formation of corrosion products having volume of about six to eight times that of steel.
