Abstract

In this Toolkit we report on the data that emerged from our project Female Voices in the Third Space - Researching Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in South-North Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)/Virtual Exchange (VE), funded by a British Academy/Leverhulme grant. Our research findings illustrate that COIL/VE is a pedagogical approach that can have a positive transformational impact for women who experience it in Higher Education (HE) in terms of equity and equality,. However, our results also show that COIL/VE can prove to be challenging and is not always easy to implement. This toolkit provides staff in HE with advice on why and how to implement South-North COIL/VE. The toolkit reports the lessons learnt on the COIL/VE experience from women in academia located in twenty two different countries. It illustrates that, in their view, COIL/VE can support the development of Global Citizenship education for peace, as advocated by UNESCO (2025).
