Abstract
Examines Altan v Turkey (13237/17) and Alpay v Turkey (16538/17) (ECtHR) on whether Turkey's derogation from the ECHR during the state of emergency it declared after an attempted coup in 2016 meant that it could be found to have infringed arts 5 and 10 for the pre-trial detention of journalists.
