Abstract
The challenges that face mega-events are by their nature so overwhelming that it is practically impossible to avert every reputational threat. A small number of Olympic games have nonetheless demonstrated successful outcomes, profitability and medium to long- term sustainable infrastructure development. These successful examples demonstrate that for the host city of an olympics event, there is potential to achieve lasting social and economic gains.
