    Abstract

BlackBox – Arts & Cognition (2014–2019), run by Professor Carla Fernandes from the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – FCSH, is a collaborative platform established to document performance composition and explore annotation, choreography, digital systems, visualisations and conceptual frameworks. BlackBox was created through an interdisciplinary European Research Council-funded project which aimed to develop a cutting-edge model for a web-based collaborative platform, dedicated to the documentation of compositional processes by contemporary performing artists with a focus on dance and theatre. The platform enables robust representations of embodied and implicit knowledge within performing practices with a focus on three choreographers: João Fiadeiro (Re.Al), Rui Lopes Graça, and Sylvia Rijmer. BlackBox covers research disciplines such as Cognitive Linguistics and Digital Media, the Performing Arts and Computer Science
