Abstract

Leadership as a topic can be studied from many different viewpoints including political, military, social, religious or corporate. The focus here is on Qur’anic scripture in relation to the qualities of leaders from an Islamic viewpoint and the scripture’s applicability to contemporary views on leadership. The intensification of debate between civilisations with divergent views on a plethora of issues has placed a spotlight on Islam and prompted a need for dialogue. The topic of leadership, with a view to continuing the discourse amongst scholars seeking to learn from the richness of Islamic history, is discussed here. The work draws on a variety of resources with a centralised focus on Qur’anic scripture to understand individuals mentioned therein relevant to Judeo-Christian and Islamic history.
