Abstract
This article explores the negotiations of two Petrarchan female poets with the gendered poetics of their tradition, arguing that they both call upon the model of female-authored epistles in Ovid's 'Heroides' to validate their authorship and to mark out an alternative version of Petrarchism for use by a female author.
