abstract = "In this paper, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) using magneto-rheological (MR) brake is proposed to improve braking performance at different road conditions which have different slip ratio. MR brake is suitable for a self-driving car which requires high stability. Therefore, MR brake system is independently controlled on each four wheels using a suitable control algorithm. In order to generate enough braking torque, the proposed MR brake has multi disks immersed in MR fluid and enclosed in an electromagnet. On the other hand, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve high stability and robust braking performance. The effectiveness of the proposed ABS is demonstrated by presenting tracking response of a desired slip ratio which is set differently based on the different road condition.",
