Abstract
System-on-chip (SoCs) integrate all computing components that power today's Internet of Things (IoT) including Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). Their global connectivity and computing resources makes them vulnerable to cyber attacks through various vectors including wired (e.g., CAN, LIN) and wireless (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) communications. Therefore, CAVs represent a major cyber security challenge. While the current software monitoring solutions are incapable of detecting the cyber attacks there is no hardware-based solution to monitor the entire SoC in-life. In this paper, we propose a SoC Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) containing, deploying a unique silicon Intellectual Property (IP) and including dedicated Analytics CPUs (Central Processing Unit) to intelligently monitor not only the SoC itself but also parallelly the automotive in-vehicle network in-life. The solution has been tested against three automotive related abuse cases, highlighting the Controller Area Network (CAN) and the Advanced eXtensible Interface (AXI) bus networks vulnerabilities. Results shows the capability of the proposed solution to successfully detect and stop the cyber attacks in automotive domain.
