The 309 Punk Project - International Artist in Residence

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Undertaking a month-long residency, in July 2024, with the 309 Punk Project in Pensacola, Florida – their first ever international artist in residece. Established in 2016, 309 is a not-for-profit museum and archive to the Pensacola punk scene in the oldest continually inhabited ‘punk house’ in the southern US states. My work has a long association with alternative subcultures, through which I intend to investigate Pensacola’s connections with Wales (where I reside), including their close proximity to Mobile Bay - purportedly the site of Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd’s landing in 1170 – the residence of, Welsh wrestler, Adrian Street, and the establishing of the first vegetarian/cultural café in the city by a Welsh migrant. To undertake the residency I was successful in securing funds through the Wales Arts International - International Opportunities fund.
